President Lee Expresses Appreciation for Cooperation
on the Opening of the Lee Taejun Memorial Hall

President Lee Jaemyung held his first phone conversation since taking office with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh on September 4.

Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated in a written briefing that "President Lee expressed his gratitude to the Mongolian president for once again congratulating him on his inauguration during the call, following the congratulatory message sent earlier." She added, "The two leaders acknowledged that cooperation between the two countries has made significant progress in various fields over the past 35 years since diplomatic ties were established in 1990, and agreed to further deepen and develop their strategic partnership, especially with the launch of our new government this year."


In particular, President Lee proposed expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Mongolia, which possesses abundant mineral resources, and Korea, which has advanced technology. He also welcomed the opening of the memorial hall for independence activist Lee Taejun, who practiced medicine in Mongolia and led the anti-Japanese movement, and expressed his appreciation for Mongolia's cooperation in this regard.


The two leaders also agreed that active people-to-people exchanges serve as a strong foundation for Korea-Mongolia relations, and decided to further promote such exchanges. They pledged to usher in a new era for Korea-Mongolia relations over the next 35 years through close communication.


Meanwhile, spokesperson Kang reported that President Khurelsukh expressed his gratitude to President Lee for his personal interest in and support for Mongolian citizens, including migrant workers, living in Korea.
