The police are currently investigating suspicions of illegal waste being brought into the Suncheon Pungdeok Urban Development site in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province during the land development process.

According to Suncheon City and the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on September 4, additional asphalt concrete (ascon) components were detected in samples collected by the police from the site and analyzed by the National Forensic Service. This result differs from the initially submitted samples and is expected to serve as a key lead in the investigation.

The police consider this case to be subject to criminal prosecution, rather than just an administrative measure. The investigation is now in its final stages, with decisions pending regarding arrests and the selection of individuals or companies to be prosecuted.

Regarding the matter, a police official stated, "It is difficult to disclose or confirm specific charges or the names of individuals or companies at this time," maintaining a cautious stance.

An official from Suncheon City said, "We have not yet received any official notification of the results from the police," but it is reported that the possibility of administrative action is under review.

If illegal waste importation into the Suncheon Pungdeok Urban Development construction site is confirmed, the company involved could face strong administrative sanctions, including business suspension and fines.

This case could have a broad impact on the transparency and credibility of regional development projects, and the local community is closely watching the outcome of the investigation and any subsequent administrative actions.
