Chungnam Institute Explores Future Policies in Response to New Government Agenda

On September 4, the Chungnam Institute held the 4th Future Policy Colloquium under the theme "Vision for National Happiness and a Safe Chungnam," discussing the policy direction of Chungnam Province in connection with the new government's national agenda.

On this day, Research Fellow Kim Yonghyun stated, "Among households in Chungnam receiving basic livelihood security, elderly households account for the largest share at 33.2%. While emergency welfare support is increasing every year, support for the non-recipient poor remains insufficient." He called for strengthening the role of local governments to address welfare blind spots.

Senior Research Fellow Park Chunseop emphasized, "Although Chungnam is making efforts to promote youth startups and create jobs, there are limits to supporting local ventures." He stressed the need for customized support at each stage and improvements to related systems and funds.

Shin Woori, Senior Research Fellow at the Disaster Safety Research Center, pointed out, "Ninety-five percent of disaster damage in Chungnam is caused by heavy rainfall, while most casualties are due to heatwaves." She suggested the need to foster the disaster and firefighting industry and to implement policies for vulnerable groups.

Experts from the Chungnam Youth Center, Youth Foundation, National Fire Research Institute, and Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs participated in the comprehensive discussion and shared their opinions.

Director Jeon Heekyung stated, "The safety and happiness of residents is the top priority of the provincial administration," and expressed hope that voices from the field and expert suggestions would be reflected in policy.

Meanwhile, the Chungnam Institute plans to continue its policy colloquium series with upcoming sessions on agricultural restructuring on September 5, the West Coast environmental crisis on September 11, and climate and biodiversity crisis response on September 12.
