APEC Summit Lays Groundwork for Korean Startups’ Global Expansion
Global experts in climate tech discussed transitioning to systems that can efficiently address the climate crisis by combining artificial intelligence (AI) with climate technology.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups held the '2025 Climate Tech Startup Summit' on September 4 at the Jeju International Convention Center (ICC) in Jeju, as an official side event of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) SME Ministerial Meeting.

Park Sunghyun, CEO of the AI semiconductor unicorn company Rebellions, delivered a keynote speech on the theme of 'Redefining Climate AI Technology for a Sustainable Future.' In addition, in-depth discussions were held on topics such as trends related to the climate crisis, the flow of climate-related capital, support policies for climate tech startups, and the structure of the technology ecosystem for climate in the era of generative AI.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to lay the groundwork for Korean startups to expand into overseas markets and strengthen connections with the global climate tech ecosystem in partnership with APEC.
Minister Hansung Sook stated, "I hope that this Climate Tech Startup Summit will serve as an opportunity to promote joint research, investment, and talent exchange among APEC member countries, leading to tangible results. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will continue to support the creation of a climate tech startup ecosystem so that climate tech startups can build global competitiveness."
