EV Advanced Materials: "ProLogium and CEA Unveil Disassemblable Solid-State Battery"

EV Advanced Materials announced on September 4 that ProLogium, a company in which it has invested, and the French national research institute CEA have jointly developed a solid-state battery module that maximizes sustainability.

According to the company, the two organizations unveiled a battery module prototype that applies a design for disassembly approach.

A ProLogium representative stated, "This battery module adopts a non-welded design that allows for easy cell-level replacement while maintaining high energy density and a compact structure. This significantly enhances repairability, recyclability, and reusability, enabling sustainable management throughout the entire battery life cycle."

The collaboration between ProLogium and CEA began in November of last year, with CEA playing a key role in module design and validation, thereby increasing the technological completeness of the project.

In the case of conventional liquid batteries, closed-type structures such as CTP (Cell to Pack) and CTC (Cell to Car) are used to achieve high energy density, which makes recycling and repairs difficult. In contrast, the newly developed module allows for cell-level replacement, which the company explained can reduce electronic waste, shorten repair times, and help realize a circular economy.

This prototype is scheduled to be unveiled for the first time in its automotive industry form at 'IAA Mobility 2025,' which will be held in Munich, Germany, from September 9 to 11.

Meanwhile, on August 18, 2021, EV Advanced Materials invested 8.5 million dollars by participating in a Series E funding round to acquire shares in ProLogium, a Taiwanese solid-state battery manufacturer.
