On September 3, the National Fire Agency announced that 22 firefighters, chosen as model rescue workers, rescued a local citizen during an overseas training program held in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The firefighters were participating in a training program that lasted about nine days, from August 25 to September 2. On the fourth day of the program, August 28 (local time), they witnessed an accident involving a middle-aged woman in Brno, Czech Republic.

The woman, who was riding a single-wheel electric scooter, tripped over a structure and fell, suffering a fractured elbow and abrasions on her palm as she collapsed onto the road. It was reported that she was unable to move for a while due to the shock.

The Korean rescue workers who witnessed the scene sprang into action immediately. They quickly controlled traffic to prevent a secondary accident, stopped the bleeding and disinfected the wounds using their emergency kits, and provided prompt first aid to the injured woman.

The rescue workers recommended that the woman be transported by ambulance, but she declined, saying, "The first aid was perfect," and instead contacted her daughter, who is her guardian. The firefighters safely handed the woman over to her guardian and then returned to their accommodations.

Citizens who witnessed the scene commented that the response was "surprisingly orderly and skillful."

A few days later, the woman sent an email to share an update on her condition and to express her thanks. Notably, she wrote the message herself in Korean, saying, "I have received a kindness I will never forget in my life. It feels like I have received an unforgettable gift," conveying her deep gratitude.

The National Fire Agency stated that this case "demonstrates how the professionalism and dedication of Korean firefighters naturally shine through, even abroad."

Kim Jaeun, head of the Rescue Division at the National Fire Agency, said, "Even in the unfamiliar environment of an overseas training program, our firefighters acted instinctively and fulfilled their core duty of saving lives by rushing to the side of the person in need faster than anyone else."
