To Be Proposed After Public Hearing on the 4th and Further Deliberations
The Democratic Party of Korea is considering abolishing the Prosecutors' Office and placing the newly established Serious Crimes Investigation Agency (SCIA) under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The party announced that this issue was discussed during the policy members' meeting held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of September 3.

In a briefing after the meeting, floor spokesperson Baek Seungah stated, "With the goal of passing the bill to abolish the Prosecutors' Office within this month, the only discussion was whether the SCIA should be placed under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety or the Ministry of Justice. Many lawmakers expressed their views, and the majority supported placing it under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety."
Based on the discussions at the meeting, the Democratic Party plans to hold a public hearing on prosecutorial reform on September 4, followed by a high-level party-government consultation on September 7 to reach a final decision. Once consensus is reached between the party and the government, the Democratic Party intends to propose an amendment to the Government Organization Act.
Spokesperson Baek added, "Ultimately, President Lee Jaemyung's intention is crucial, and the decision will be made by the government with reference to this, as was concluded during the meeting."
