On September 3, National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik shook hands with Kim Jong Un, Chairman of North Korea's State Affairs Commission.


The Office of the Speaker announced that Speaker Woo, who was officially invited by the Chinese government, attended the 80th anniversary parade commemorating China's victory in the war, as well as the welcoming reception and luncheon. During these events, he interacted with leaders from various countries, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

An official from the Speaker's Office stated, "Speaker Woo exchanged greetings with Chairman Kim before attending the parade."


Speaker Woo urged President Xi to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.


He also requested President Putin's attention to the 130 South Korean companies currently operating in Russia. President Putin asked Speaker Woo about his perspective on inter-Korean relations and inquired about what message he should convey to Chairman Kim on the occasion of the North Korea-Russia summit.


In response, Speaker Woo said, "I hope that South and North Korea will usher in an era of peace and prosperity," adding, "It is extremely important at this time to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula despite various challenges, and I will make efforts toward this goal."


Meanwhile, on September 4, Speaker Woo is scheduled to meet Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, his official counterpart in China. He will also meet Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who is in charge of China's economy, science and technology, and future industries.
