Yeoju City to Operate Voluntary Reporting Period for Unlicensed and Unregistered Livestock Farms Yeoju City plans to conduct joint inspections of livestock farms together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to prevent outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) occurring in unlicensed and unregistered livestock barns, which are blind spots in quarantine. Recently, with the emergence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) in small-scale illegal livestock farms, Yeoju City intends to strengthen quarantine management and disaster preparedness by conducting a comprehensive inspection of unlicensed and unregistered livestock facilities in quarantine blind spots before the special quarantine period (from October). The city aims to minimize the risk of infectious disease spread through proactive quarantine measures.

In addition, before the comprehensive inspection, a voluntary reporting period will be operated for 14 days (from September 5 to September 18). Farms that report during this period will be given a correction period of six months for actions such as livestock disposal. On the other hand, farms found during on-site inspections (from September 19 to September 25) without prior voluntary reporting will face administrative actions such as prosecution and fines.

For poultry farming, farms raising chickens or ducks in facilities larger than 50 square meters are required to obtain a license, while those raising chickens, ducks, and similar animals in facilities smaller than 50 square meters are required to register. Additionally, farms raising chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, quails, ostriches, pheasants, or wild geese in facilities smaller than 10 square meters are exempt from registration. Unlicensed or unregistered farms should report to the Livestock Division of Yeoju City during the voluntary reporting period.

Kim Hyuntaek, head of the Livestock Division, stated, "Once an animal disease occurs, it can cause significant damage to the entire local livestock industry. Therefore, we ask for the active cooperation of farm owners to ensure that inspections of unlicensed and unregistered livestock facilities in quarantine blind spots are carried out smoothly."
