The construction of the new building for Gwangju Buk-gu Office is progressing smoothly.
According to Buk-gu on September 3, the new office building being constructed on a 7,165-square-meter site in Yongbong-dong is scheduled for completion on January 26, 2026. Construction began in April last year, and the new building will have one basement floor and eight above-ground floors, housing office spaces for 17 departments, meeting rooms, a staff cafeteria, and a labor union office.
A total project budget of 30 billion won has been invested in this initiative. The site was secured by demolishing the existing annex on the left side of Buk-gu Office and the former Buk-gu Election Commission building. Once the new building is completed, the annex on the right side of Buk-gu Office will also be dismantled to improve the working environment for employees.
The Buk-gu Office building, constructed in 1985, is divided into five separate buildings, including the main building, public health center, and annexes, resulting in decreased work efficiency and significant inconvenience for residents. The long corridor layout also caused inefficient movement within the building. The building once received a "Grade C" in a detailed safety inspection, indicating the need for repairs and reinforcement. In addition, seismic reinforcement must be completed by 2035 in accordance with the earthquake disaster prevention plan.
The current construction progress rate stands at 57.7%. Buk-gu plans to begin operations in the new building in the first half of 2026, in line with the regular personnel reshuffle scheduled for that period.
