Providing Medical Services Including Ophthalmology and Dental Check-ups
Damyang County in South Jeolla Province announced on September 3 that it will operate the "Rural Visiting Medical Bus" in Changpyeong, Mujung, and Wolsan to support local residents who lack access to medical facilities.
The Rural Visiting Medical Bus is a project jointly operated by Damyang County and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, providing direct medical services to underserved rural areas. The program offers a variety of services, including both Western and Korean traditional medicine, as well as ophthalmology and dental check-ups.
The visiting medical services will take place in Changpyeong-myeon on September 4, Mujung-myeon on September 8, and Wolsan-myeon on September 11. The program targets local residents aged 60 and older, as well as vulnerable groups. Approximately 300 people per township are expected to receive care, with a total of around 900 beneficiaries.
Western medical services will be provided by Wonkwang University Jangheung Integrated Medical Hospital (in Changpyeong and Wolsan) and the Health and Medical Integrated Volunteer Association (in Mujung). The Korean Medical Volunteer Association will conduct oral examinations and education. E Angyeongdaeinjeom (in Changpyeong and Wolsan) and Malgeun Angyeong (in Mujung) will offer vision screening services and provide reading glasses.
The medical services will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the designated days, with a lunch break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The county and the local agricultural cooperative plan to coordinate the schedule to prevent crowding at specific times and ensure safe operation.
A county official said, "We expect the operation of the visiting medical bus to provide significant help to residents who have struggled due to a lack of medical facilities. We will continue to do our best to build a community with no gaps in medical services."
