Admiral Kang Donggil Inaugurated as Chief of Naval Operations: "Internalizing Constitutional Values... Establishing Robust Readiness"

On September 3, Admiral Kang Donggil, Chief of Naval Operations, stated, "We will establish a robust state of readiness based on education and training that align with the evolving battlefield environment, as well as on a sound national perspective and mental fortitude internalized through constitutional values. Through this, we will continue the proud tradition of an invincible Navy that wins in every domain of warfare, including maritime, space, cyber, and electromagnetic operations."


At the inauguration ceremony for the 38th Chief of Naval Operations, held at the Gyeryongdae parade ground and presided over by Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-baek, Admiral Kang said in his inaugural address, "The public expects our military to become a trustworthy force and a cutting-edge, advanced military that leads the future. The Navy and Marine Corps must remain steadfast in fulfilling their core mission and thereby earn the trust of the people."

Admiral Kang emphasized, "While dedicating ourselves to our fundamental duty of defending the nation and its people, we must transparently manage our units to meet public expectations and continue to improve service conditions for our sailors." He added, "Let us set sail together toward becoming the 'invincible Navy of the people,' inheriting the spirit of Admiral Son Wonil, the founding father of our Navy, who pledged, 'I humbly dedicate myself to the nation and the people.'"


Admiral Kang, who was inaugurated as the 38th Chief of Naval Operations on this day, is a graduate of the 46th class of the Naval Academy. He is an expert in force planning and maritime operations, having served as Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff's Military Support Headquarters, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Director of Planning and Management at Naval Headquarters, Director of Force Planning at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Commander of the Incheon Naval Defense Command.


Meanwhile, former Chief of Naval Operations Yang Yongmo concluded his nearly 39-year military career with a retirement and discharge ceremony on the same day.
