Russian news agency TASS reported on the 3rd that a venue for a bilateral summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean Chairman Kim Jongun has been prepared in Beijing, China.

It is reported that the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, where President Putin is staying during his visit to Beijing, is displaying the national flags of both countries.

Previously, on the 2nd, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov indicated the possibility of holding a bilateral summit, stating, "We believe the two leaders will attend the military parade and welcoming ceremony together, and will communicate on a bilateral level." However, he did not disclose whether a final agreement had been reached.

President Putin and Chairman Kim visited China to attend the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War (Victory Day) held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Both leaders attended the parade and the official reception.

The last meeting between President Putin and Chairman Kim was in June of last year, when President Putin visited Pyongyang for a one-on-one summit and signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty. Before that, in September 2023, Chairman Kim visited Russia for a summit, and in April 2019, he also held a summit in Vladivostok.

TASS reported, "The leaders of the two countries have been steadily exchanging letters," and added, "In August of this year, they also held a phone call to discuss the anniversary of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula, the development of good-neighborly relations between the two countries, and North Korea's support for the Kursk region."

The report continued, "At that time, President Putin shared his future negotiation plans with U.S. President Donald Trump with Chairman Kim, and the two leaders agreed to continue direct contact in the future."
