Gyeonggi Province has joined hands with Naver to promote climate action.
On September 3, Gyeonggi Province held the second plenary meeting of the Gyeonggi Province Climate Crisis Response Committee at Naver Headquarters 1784 in Seongnam and announced the "Travelogue Practice Partnership" with Naver.
Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This week is Gyeonggi Climate Super Week. Yesterday, Gyeonggi Province held the Clean Air International Forum to commemorate Blue Sky Day, which was established after a proposal to the United Nations. Tomorrow, we will sign a reusable container agreement with professional sports teams in the province, including baseball, soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams." He added, "Gyeonggi Province has pioneered many first-of-their-kind initiatives in Korea for climate response, including Gyeonggi RE100, the Climate Fund, Climate Satellite, and Climate Insurance."
He highlighted two projects he is particularly invested in: "Climate Action Opportunity Income" and the "Climate Citizens' Assembly."
Governor Kim explained, "The Climate Action Opportunity Income project is designed to help 14.2 million residents of Gyeonggi Province practice climate crisis response in their daily lives," adding, "More than 1.5 million residents have participated in the Climate Action Opportunity Income app."
Regarding the Climate Citizens' Assembly, he said, "Two months ago, we invited applications from residents and established the Citizens' Assembly to address the climate crisis. Although the assembly does not have decision-making or legislative authority like the National Assembly or Provincial Council, I believe we can at least ensure that the issues discussed and decided there are considered as agenda items by the executive branch."
He continued, "Today's agenda is about opening new indicators for climate and administration. I hope, under the leadership of the committee chair, we can create a forum that goes beyond technical and administrative matters to review social structures, policy decision-making, and even political structures."
The Gyeonggi Province Climate Crisis Response Committee is the province's highest-level climate policy deliberative body. It consists of 41 members, including 15 ex officio members such as Governor Kim Dongyeon (co-chair) and directors related to carbon neutrality, as well as 26 appointed members from the provincial council, academia, industry, women, youth, and labor sectors.
On this day, Gyeonggi Province and Naver announced the "Travelogue Practice Partnership," which will link the province's "Climate Action Opportunity Income" project with the "Naver ESG Program."
Instead of paper mail, the partnership will use Naver's electronic document service. Residents will receive mail electronically and be rewarded for doing so. The climate action rewards earned based on participation will be converted to Naver Happybean points, which can then be used to join various social contribution programs.

Since the app's launch in July last year, the Climate Action Opportunity Income project has surpassed 1.5 million cumulative subscribers. Through collaboration with Naver, a global RE100 company, it is expected to become an innovative case for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative aims to establish a virtuous cycle model in which eco-friendly activities by Gyeonggi residents lead to eco-friendly consumption and social contribution.
During the meeting, participants also discussed the "Gyeonggi Climate Platform," which integrates climate, environment, and energy data, including renewable energy site analysis and climate management services. They explored policy development for recent climate disasters such as extreme rainfall, landslides, and heatwaves, as well as ways for residents to easily utilize these resources.
Additionally, to achieve visible results for "Gyeonggi RE100," the province announced an energy transition activation plan, investing 74.9 billion won to expand renewable energy by 19.8 MW. The plan includes installing solar panels in public parking lots, developing agrivoltaic models, converting abandoned riverbeds into low-carbon waterfront parks, establishing railway regenerative energy systems, and expanding solar power at livestock farms and Eco Farm Land.
Gyeonggi Province aims to enhance the implementation of energy transition by embedding climate policy throughout provincial administration and to actively support the national energy transition by serving as a pace-setter for the current government.
Meanwhile, Naver Headquarters 1784, where the committee's plenary meeting was held, is the world's first robot-friendly building, designed as a space where advanced technologies such as AI, cloud computing, robotics, digital twins, and autonomous driving are integrated and tested in a real-world environment.
