A public observation event will be held, offering a rare opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring sight of a total lunar eclipse as the moon passes completely into Earth's shadow.

Daejeon Citizen Observatory will host an observation event in the early morning of September 8, allowing citizens to enjoy this special astronomical phenomenon-visible across the entire country-together.

This total lunar eclipse is the first such opportunity in three years since November 2022. The eclipse will begin as a partial eclipse at 1:26 a.m., with the total eclipse phase-where the entire moon is covered-lasting from 2:30 a.m. to 3:53 a.m.

The phenomenon is expected to conclude at 4:56 a.m., when the moon completely exits Earth's umbra.

To help citizens experience this event, Daejeon Citizen Observatory has prepared a program in the auxiliary observation room, where participants can observe the progress of the eclipse using telescopes.

In particular, Saturn and Jupiter will also be visible, making this an especially memorable experience for astronomy enthusiasts.

A variety of programs will be offered, including live commentary by astronomy experts, hands-on telescope experiences, and interactive astronomy quizzes for citizens, promising meaningful memories for families attending together.

For those unable to visit in person, the event will also be broadcast live online through the Daejeon Citizen Observatory YouTube channel, allowing people to enjoy the spectacular sight of the reddened moon in real time from home.

Choi Hyungbin, Director of Daejeon Citizen Observatory, said, "A total lunar eclipse is not something you can see every year, and the moment when the moon glows red leaves a deep impression on many people. I hope this observation event will be a precious opportunity for citizens to experience the wonders of the universe with their families."
