Hamyang County Unveils “OrGo Hamyang” Completion Medal Design

First Design Inspired by Cheonwangbong Peak of Jirisan
Annual Release Planned for Medal Design Series

Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province unveiled the first design of the commemorative medal for completing all 15 peaks of the “OrGo Hamyang” mountain completion certification project, which has been in operation since January this year, on September 3.

This first medal design was inspired by Cheonwangbong Peak of Jirisan Mountain, which is both a representative mountain of South Korea and the highest among the 15 major peaks included in “OrGo Hamyang.”

The front of the medal features a three-dimensional depiction of the main ridge of Jirisan Mountain covered in autumn foliage, the summit stone of Cheonwangbong Peak, Jianjae Pass-a trail to Jirisan selected as one of Korea’s 100 most beautiful roads-and the grand scenery of Jirisan’s main gate.

The back of the medal shows the locations of the 15 major mountains of “OrGo Hamyang” and Cheonwangbong Peak, and incorporates the Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation’s four-direction latent image technology to prevent forgery and counterfeiting.

The commemorative medal is made of pure silver, weighs 15.55g (1/2 ounce), and has a rectangular shape. It is packaged in a pyramid-shaped case made from eco-friendly paper. The county plans to select a design representing each mountain every year and release them as a continuous series.

County Governor Jin Byoungyoung stated, “We created this commemorative medal in collaboration with the Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation to honor those who complete all 15 peaks of ‘OrGo Hamyang’ and to instill a sense of pride. We hope many people will take interest in and participate in ‘OrGo Hamyang,’ where you can experience beautiful nature and hidden scenic spots.”

Meanwhile, “OrGo Hamyang” is conducted through a mobile-only app that certifies the completion of all 15 major mountains. Depending on the number of completions, participants receive Hamyang Love Gift Certificates and commemorative silver medals produced by the Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation as completion souvenirs.

The county will host the “1st OrGo Hamyang Completion Day Commemorative Event” on September 21 during the Hamyang Wild Ginseng Festival, where medals will be awarded to participants who completed all peaks, providing a time for celebration and encouragement.
