Seongbuk District in Seoul, led by Mayor Lee Seungro, will urgently provide five water tank trucks to Gangneung City, where a disaster has been declared due to a severe drought. The support consists of two 12.4-ton trucks and three 16-ton trucks. In cooperation with Gangneung, Seongbuk District plans to collect water from the Yeongok Water Purification Plant as well as the Donghae, Pyeongchang, and Yangyang water intake plants, and transport it to the Hongje Water Purification Plant in Gangneung.

Since August 20, Gangneung City has implemented water supply restrictions in areas near the Hongje Water Purification Plant. The water storage rate at Obong Reservoir, the main water source, has plummeted to a critical level below 15%, causing significant inconvenience for residents. In response, Seongbuk District has decided to provide emergency water trucks to help overcome the drought damage.
Seongbuk District has previously supported Gangneung during the wildfire disaster by raising relief funds for affected residents, and is continuing its solidarity with the local community through this latest support.
Seongbuk District Mayor Lee Seungro stated, "As Seongbuk District takes the initiative in providing water trucks, I hope more local governments will join forces. We hope this support will provide some relief to Gangneung residents suffering from the prolonged drought, and we will work together so that everyone can overcome this crisis wisely and return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
