Wonju City in Gangwon Province announced on September 3 that the "30th Wonju Social Welfare Grand Festival," hosted by the city and organized by the Wonju Social Welfare Council, will be held on September 6 at the permanent performance venue in the parking lot of the Dancing Performance Hall to commemorate Social Welfare Day (September 7).
Previously, in July, a preliminary event called the "Smile Full Bloom Project - Cap Collection Challenge" was held successfully, heightening the festival atmosphere. This challenge involved collecting discarded plastic caps as part of a fundraising campaign to support dental treatment costs for vulnerable groups. It contributed to establishing proper recycling practices, reducing carbon emissions, and improving the local environment.
On the day of the event, at 2:00 p.m., the 26th Social Welfare Day Commemorative Ceremony will take place, during which 31 individuals who have dedicated themselves to improving the quality of life for local residents will be awarded plaques of recognition.
In addition, a variety of side events are planned, including a children's welfare drawing contest, the Angel Song Festival, a social welfare expo, and a flea market, offering visitors a wide range of sights, food, and entertainment to enjoy.
Won Kangsoo, Mayor of Wonju, stated, "I sincerely thank everyone who has worked hard on the frontlines of social welfare to enhance community well-being," adding, "I hope this festival, where everyone comes together, will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the importance of social welfare."
