"What Matters Is Being Positively Evaluated Upon Leaving Office, Not Enjoying Popularity Now"
On the evening of September 2, President Lee Jaemyung hosted a dinner at the Blue House State Guest House with the Democratic Party of Korea's district chairpersons who are not currently serving in the National Assembly.
Park Kyungmi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, issued a written briefing that afternoon, stating, "About 90 district chairpersons who are not currently in the National Assembly attended a dinner at the Blue House State Guest House at the invitation of President Lee starting at 6:30 p.m. today, and spent an hour and forty minutes exchanging conversations."
Nam Younghee, head of the Association of District Chairpersons Outside the National Assembly, said, "President Lee, who is attentive to the difficulties faced by district chairpersons outside the National Assembly, arranged this dinner for us," and added, "We will devote ourselves wholeheartedly as key contributors to the success of the Lee Jaemyung people's government."
President Lee, who also served as the Democratic Party of Korea's district chairperson for Bundang-gap in 2008, said, "District chairpersons outside the National Assembly are comrades and fellow soldiers who have fought together for victory," and added, "I will not forget the sacrifices and dedication of these district chairpersons." He continued, "The Democratic Party district chairpersons outside the National Assembly are taking on the difficult roles of roots and stems and are doing well. Politics is about winning the hearts of the people, and just as a good harvest comes from diligent farming, the results will follow our efforts."
President Lee also stated, "What matters is not enjoying popularity now, but being evaluated positively for achievements and results on the day I leave office," and added, "There is truly much to do, but only four years and nine months remain in my term, and I feel an immense sense of responsibility." He further emphasized, "Depending on how district chairpersons outside the National Assembly perform in their challenging constituencies, the evaluation of the Lee Jaemyung administration will change," urging them to make every effort.
