Sejong City, the administrative capital, and Seoul National University, Korea's leading academic institution, have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a future knowledge cooperation platform that links education, research, and policy.
On September 2, Minho Choi, Mayor of Sejong City, and Honglim Yoo, President of Seoul National University, joined hands at the university's main campus to cooperate on education, including nurturing future talent.
According to officials, this agreement was made based on a shared understanding between the city and Seoul National University regarding balanced national development and the cultivation of future core talent.
Going forward, the two institutions will actively collaborate in four key areas: operating lifelong education programs for Sejong citizens; fostering talent in the public sector; nurturing talent in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced science and technology; and establishing a national mega think tank.
This agreement is significant in that it goes beyond simple educational cooperation, serving as a foundation for policy research, talent development, and advanced science and technology education centered around Sejong City. The city plans to accelerate the creation of an AI-based, future-oriented educational complex in connection with national research institutes as a result of this agreement.
In particular, the plan is to take the first step toward building a national mega think tank, positioning Sejong City as a key axis for balanced national development and transforming it into a global education and research hub where national policy and future academic disciplines converge.
Mayor Choi stated, "The slogan of Sejong City, 'Sejong is the Future,' reflects our mission to create a new national future and ease the concentration in the capital region, as well as to promote balanced national development. I am grateful that Seoul National University has agreed with our proposal to lay the groundwork for national progress."
President Yoo added, "I hope that Seoul National University and Sejong City will work together to create an education and research hub that integrates national policy and future academic disciplines. As a national university corporation, Seoul National University will also strive to fulfill its role as a platform that presents a future vision and creative strategies."
