There has been a call in Gwangju Dong-gu to attract a public children's hospital that operates 24 hours a day, in order to increase the birth rate among young people.
On September 2, Council Member Jinseong Noh stated during the main session's "5-Minute Free Speech," "Dong-gu has the highest proportion of young people among the five autonomous districts of Gwangju, at 27.65%. Last year, Dong-gu's total fertility rate was 0.86, ranking first among the five districts," adding, "However, there are no children's hospitals operating at night."
He continued, "If a child falls ill on a weekday night or holiday, parents have to go to hospitals in other districts, which is a significant inconvenience. Although the birth rate is high, the supporting medical infrastructure is lacking."
He further mentioned, "In the case of Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, the local government and Asan Medical Center worked together to attract pediatric specialists." He added, "Dong-gu should consider using donations such as the Hometown Love Donation to provide consultation fees for specialists and dedicated nurses."
