On September 2, the city of Yangju in Gyeonggi Province announced that its "Yangju Sinpyeonghwaroro Chronic Congestion Improvement Project" has been selected as a new project for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2026 Special Situation Area Development Program, securing 12.4 billion won in national funding.
The Special Situation Area Development Program aims to promote the welfare and regional development of residents in areas marginalized due to the division of North and South Korea or other geographical factors. The program provides 80% of the total project cost through national funding.
The newly selected "Yangju Sinpyeonghwaroro Chronic Congestion Improvement Project" for 2026 involves constructing two additional ramps on National Route 3 in the Okjeong Sports Park area. This project is designed to distribute traffic between Hoeam Interchange and Goam Interchange, alleviate traffic congestion, and ensure a smoother flow of traffic.
An official from Yangju City stated, "The selection of this new project will greatly contribute to improving the convenience of daily life for our citizens," adding, "We will continue to actively identify and pursue practical projects that directly benefit residents."
