The University Basic Research Institute Support Project aims to strengthen the management system of university research institutes and promote the innovative operation of key theme research centers on campus, providing annual financial support of up to 5 billion KRW for a maximum of five years.

Kyung Hee University was selected in the field of natural sciences (astronomy, particle, and space sciences) and will work to foster world-class basic research laboratories.

To enhance the management system of its university basic research institutes, Kyung Hee University will establish and reorganize 15 research centers, including the key theme research center "Future Space Exploration Institute," out of its 30 research institutes in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, and medical sciences.

Through this, the university plans to promote collaborative research among institutes, support internationalization, and enhance competitiveness so that researchers can take on large-scale research projects.

The Future Space Exploration Institute is expected to become a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, extending beyond the single field of space engineering to include planetary science, heliophysics, astrophysics, and astrobiology. To ensure successful research outcomes, the institute will recruit outstanding early-career researchers and pursue international joint research with leading universities and research institutions in the United States, Europe, and China.

Jinsang Kim, President of Kyung Hee University, stated, "We will do our utmost to establish an innovative and creative research model that leads this era of transformation, so that we can foster world-class basic research laboratories."
