Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and local governments nationwide, will run the 'Know Your Blood Vessel Numbers - Red Circle Campaign' throughout September to promote early detection and prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases among citizens.
Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, are life-threatening conditions that can develop if preceding chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia are not properly managed. If left untreated, these conditions can lead to a range of complications, including chronic kidney disease, retinopathy, and nerve damage. Therefore, early detection and regular monitoring of blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels are especially important.
During this campaign, free blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks and consultations will be offered at various locations across the city, including the East and West Health Lifestyle Support Centers, local festivals, schools, libraries, subway stations, and senior welfare centers. There will also be intensive promotional activities to raise health awareness.
In particular, the East Health Lifestyle Support Center will operate a 'Know Your Blood Vessel Numbers' health booth from September 1 to 5. At the booth, visitors can receive blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and HbA1c tests, and anyone aged 20 or older is eligible to participate. Those who wish to be tested should visit between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. after fasting for eight hours.
The center is located on the 5th floor of the Sports Welfare Center at 90 Hwahap-ro 1426beon-gil, Yangju City. For more details, please contact the East Health Lifestyle Support Center.
The West Health Lifestyle Support Center will also operate the 'Proper Blood Pressure Measurement Posture Zone' during the first week of September, where participants can directly experience the correct way to measure blood pressure. In addition, the center will visit interested institutions to conduct blood pressure, blood sugar, and HbA1c tests and provide personalized health education. The center is located on the 2nd floor of the Culture and Arts Center at 303 Buhung-ro 618beon-gil, Gwangjeok-myeon, Yangju City. For more information, please contact the West Health Lifestyle Support Center.
An official from the Yangju City Public Health Center stated, "Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are increasingly affecting not only the elderly but also younger people due to worsening lifestyle habits," emphasizing, "The most effective prevention is to check your blood vessel numbers and practice healthy behaviors while you are still healthy."
