According to the French daily Le Monde on September 1 (local time), Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced that the suspect in the murder of Andriy Parubiy, former chairman of the Ukrainian parliament (age 54), was apprehended between Lviv and Kyiv. Minister Klymenko explained that "the crime was meticulously planned."

Deputy Chief of Police Andriy Niebytov stated, "We cannot rule out the possibility of Russian involvement in this case," adding, "It may have been ordered by the Russian Federation." He explained that the suspect disguised himself as a delivery worker, approached former Chairman Parubiy, fired a total of eight shots, and fled the scene after confirming Parubiy's death.

Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian military intelligence agency, also suspected Russian involvement in the incident. He claimed via Telegram, "Since the enemy cannot subdue Ukraine by force, they resort to terrorism, instill fear, and seek to create social tension and chaos in order to break the Ukrainian people's will to resist."

Former Chairman Parubiy was a symbolic figure of the pro-European revolution and served as chairman of the Ukrainian parliament from 2016 to 2019.
