Goyang Hosts the 24th King of Track Tournament
Criterium Race Draws 450 Competitors and Enthusiastic Support from Citizens

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on September 1 that the 24th King of Track tournament, hosted by the Goyang Special City Mayor, was successfully held on August 30 with enthusiastic support from athletes and citizens who gathered from all over the country.

The tournament, held at Ilsan Culture Square, was conducted in the criterium format, an urban bicycle race where participants complete multiple laps on a limited course. A total of 450 participants, including top domestic athletes as well as renowned international competitors, showcased their skills in a thrilling competition.


During his opening remarks at the ceremony, Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang Special City, stated, "I believe that bicycles are more than just a means of transportation; they are an important asset that enriches the health and culture of our citizens." He added, "I hope this tournament will serve as an opportunity for Goyang to take a leap forward as an international bicycle city."


Mayor Lee further added significance to the event by participating in a bicycle parade with the athletes, personally riding on the track.

Meanwhile, a safety campaign for bicycles and personal mobility devices (PM) was held around the tournament venue. The campaign featured various programs, such as safety rule quizzes and the distribution of promotional items, allowing visitors to easily and enjoyably learn about safety, which was met with a great response from citizens.


A city official stated, "This tournament has provided a new opportunity to expand the foundation of bicycle culture," and added, "We will continue to do our best to make Goyang a city where citizens can enjoy cycling even more."
