The delivery driver who staged a fake bomb threat at a fast food restaurant in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, will stand trial on criminal charges while in custody.
On September 1, the Criminal Division 1 of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Seo Youngbae) indicted a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges including obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means and interference with business operations, and placed him under detention.
A is accused of posting a message on social media at around 1:07 p.m. on August 17, stating, "Delivery is slow and the staff are unfriendly. I will plant a bomb," targeting a fast food restaurant in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. He then called the police emergency number 112, pretending to be a witness to the post and reporting a suspected terrorist threat. Investigations revealed that A committed the crime out of spite after a staff member at the restaurant, where he had recently made a delivery, remarked that his delivery seemed delayed.
Due to A's actions, the fast food restaurant's operations were disrupted for approximately one hour and forty minutes while bomb detection procedures were carried out. Hundreds of visitors to the nine-story building where the restaurant is located were temporarily evacuated.
