Rain Remains Absent in Gangneung
Severe Drought Continues Despite Heavy Showers Elsewhere
On September 2, rain is expected across the country except for the east coast of Gangwon Province.
On this day, significant rainfall was recorded in the northwestern part of the central region, the southern coast, and Jeju. In Seobu-myeon, Hongseong County, South Chungcheong Province, the rainfall exceeded 120 mm. However, no rain fell in Yeongdong, Gangwon Province, which is suffering from severe drought. In Gangneung, where a disaster declaration was issued due to the drought, the recorded precipitation was '0 mm.'
Rain is expected to continue in most areas except for Yeongdong, Gangwon Province, until September 2. In the early morning hours, intermittent rain is forecast for southern Gyeonggi, central and southern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, until the morning in Chungcheong, until midday in Jeju, and until the evening in the southern regions.
In northeastern Gyeonggi until the afternoon of this day, and in northern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon and Chungcheong until the night, there may be periods of heavy rainfall with hourly precipitation of 20 to 30 mm (and over 40 mm in some areas).In the early morning of September 2, heavy rain may pour down in western inland Gyeongsangnam-do, and until dawn in Honam. Although rain is forecast for September 4 and 6, precipitation is still unlikely in Yeongdong, Gangwon Province.
On September 2, morning lows are expected to range from 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs between 28 and 33 degrees. The forecasted minimum and maximum temperatures in major cities are as follows: Seoul 23 and 32 degrees, Incheon 23 and 30 degrees, Daejeon 24 and 30 degrees, Gwangju 25 and 31 degrees, Daegu 25 and 32 degrees, Ulsan 24 and 32 degrees, and Busan 26 and 32 degrees. In the afternoon of September 2, ozone levels in the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungcheong are expected to reach the 'bad' category. For the time being, heatwave conditions will persist in Yeongdong, Gangwon Province, the southern regions, and Jeju, with daytime apparent temperatures expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius.
From the night of this day, strong winds of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour (9 to 14 meters per second) and waves of 1.5 to 3.5 meters are expected in the outer central East Sea and the northern outer East Sea. High seas warnings may be issued for these waters. In the eastern offshore of the South Sea and the southern outer East Sea, winds are also expected to be strong, at 30 to 45 kilometers per hour (8 to 12 meters per second), so caution is advised.
