Bucheon Suju High School in Gyeonggi Province has been finally selected for the Ministry of Education's "Autonomous Public High School 2.0" project and will be converted into an autonomous public high school starting March 1 next year.

The "Autonomous Public High School 2.0" initiative is a policy promoted by the Ministry of Education, aiming to enhance regional educational capabilities and foster future talent. Under this policy, schools operate autonomous and distinctive curricula in cooperation with local governments, universities, companies, and other organizations.

Suju High School plans to operate unique educational programs with the goal of "cultivating glocal talent leading K-culture based on A.C.E. competencies." These programs include AI and digital competency enhancement courses, glocal humanities and culture convergence courses, and region-based health and ecology convergence courses.

In addition, the school will receive financial support of 200 million won per year for the next five years, totaling 1 billion won, as well as various administrative and financial support measures, including autonomy over its curriculum.

Last year, Bucheon City signed a business agreement with Suju High School to be selected for the "Autonomous Public High School 2.0" project and has continued to provide administrative support by forming practical agreements with local cultural and educational institutions such as the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF), Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), Suju Library, Bucheon Cultural Center, and Goriiul Youth Center.

Bucheon City explained that this achievement is the result of close cooperation between the city and Suju High School, combining active regional support with thorough preparation at the school level.

Cho Yongik, Mayor of Bucheon, said, "I deeply appreciate the hard work of Suju High School's faculty and parents," and added, "We will spare no effort to support Suju High School so that it can successfully operate educational programs tailored to regional characteristics in collaboration with local universities, companies, and other organizations."
