Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province announced that, starting September 19, the intercity public transportation transfer fare discount system between Yangsan, Busan, and Gimhae will become completely free of charge.
The intercity public transportation transfer fare discount system between Yangsan, Busan, and Gimhae has been in place since May 21, 2011. Under this system, when transferring between city (village) buses, light rail, or subways operated by different local governments, a transfer fee of 500 won for the first transfer and 200 won for the second transfer has been charged to adult passengers.
As exchanges between regions have gradually increased, Yangsan City, Busan City, South Gyeongsang Province, and Gimhae City have reached an agreement to make the intercity transfer fare completely free.
Accordingly, when transferring between public transportation services operated by different local governments, passengers will only need to pay the basic fare and cover any fare differences between modes of transportation. This change will be automatically applied to all transportation card users without the need for a separate application.
This full exemption of intercity transfer fares is expected to further enhance transportation welfare that citizens can directly experience, following the currently implemented Gyeongnam Pass and the free bus fare policy for children in Yangsan City that began in August.
An official from Yangsan City stated, "The complete exemption of intercity transfer fares is a meaningful policy that both reduces transportation costs for citizens and improves the convenience of interregional travel," adding, "We will continue to promote policies that make public transportation more convenient for our citizens."
