The Climate Industry International Expo, held from August 27 to 29 at BEXCO in Busan, was jointly hosted by the Korean government, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the World Bank (WB). As part of the government's "Energy Super Week" program, several international ministerial meetings were also held, including the 15th APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting, the 16th Clean Energy Ministerial, and the 10th Mission Innovation Ministerial.
Korea Zinc was selected as one of the "Best Companies" at the Korea Energy Show, alongside Doosan Group, through a vote participated in by around 400 visitors to the event. The "Best Company Award" ceremony was held on the closing day, August 29, and was attended by key officials from the organizing committee, including Sanghoon Lee, President of the Korea Energy Agency. This year's WCE featured participation from more than 540 companies and organizations.
For this exhibition, Korea Zinc focused on four main themes: Conversion, Circulation, Connection, and Carbon-Free. The company highlighted its journey to becoming the world's leading non-ferrous metal producer, manufacturing key minerals in resource-scarce Korea, as well as its renewable energy and green hydrogen businesses centered on its Australian subsidiary, and the achievements and vision of its resource circulation business in the United States.
On the opening day of the Climate Industry International Expo, August 27, the Korea Zinc booth was visited by Prime Minister Kim Minseok, Busan Mayor Park Hyungjun, Sanghoon Lee, President of the Korea Energy Agency, as well as energy ministers and other key officials from various countries. On the second day, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeonggwan, Assemblyman Kim Yongtae of the People Power Party, and CEOs of major conglomerates and public enterprises visited the booth.
At its exhibition booth, Korea Zinc showcased an integrated value chain diorama (realistic model), four large screens, strategic mineral display models, a hydrogen forklift from the Onsan Smelter, kiosk content for each zone, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based waste sorting robot (Robin), and a quadrupedal AI safety management robot. The renewable energy and green hydrogen section of the diorama introduced Korea Zinc's 9GW-scale renewable energy development and power generation projects, as well as its large-scale battery energy storage system (ESS) business. The resource circulation section demonstrated the process of recovering valuable metals from discarded waste such as electronic devices, batteries, and solar panels, and producing 100% recycled products like copper and silver.
