Five New CEO-Designates Named:
Ryoo Dohyung, Kim Jongseo, Rafi Balta,
Choi Seokjin, and Kim Kyungsoo to Lead Hanwha Affiliates
On August 31, Hanwha Group announced the appointment of five CEO-designates for four of its affiliates: Hanwha Corporation Global, Hanwha Engine, Hanwha Power Systems, and Hanwha Hotels & Resorts.
Ryoo Dohyung, Head of Corporate Planning at Hanwha Ocean, has been named as the new CEO-designate of Hanwha Corporation Global. Ryoo is an experienced executive who has previously served as CEO at Hanwha Energy, Hanwha Advanced Materials, and Hanwha Momentum, covering the materials, energy, and machinery sectors. Since last year, he has led corporate planning at Hanwha Ocean and, as the new head of Hanwha Corporation Global, plans to focus on advancing business strategies and enhancing global competitiveness.
Kim Jongseo, who has been appointed as the new CEO of Hanwha Engine, has previously served as CEO of Hanwha Total and Head of the Merchant Ship Business Division at Hanwha Ocean. Since 2023, he has led the Merchant Ship Business Division at Hanwha Ocean, where he is credited with improving performance by implementing a profitability-focused selective order strategy and increasing the proportion of sales from liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. Hanwha Group stated that Kim is expected to strengthen competitiveness and drive business diversification in the ship engine market, which is considered a "blue ocean" in the shipbuilding industry.
Rafi Balta, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hanwha Power Systems, has been named as the new CEO-designate of Hanwha Power Systems. Balta is an expert with over 35 years of experience in the engine and gas turbine industries. He joined Hanwha Power Systems last year after working at GE and aerospace manufacturer Precision Castparts. Drawing on this experience, he is expected to lead the expansion of Hanwha Power Systems' compressor and gas turbine businesses.
Hanwha Hotels & Resorts will transition to a co-CEO system to strengthen expertise by business segment. As a result, Choi Seokjin will lead the resort division, while Kim Kyungsoo will head the estate division. Choi has previously served as Head of the Leisure Support Group and Head of Future Strategy at Hanwha Hotels & Resorts. Kim has held positions as Head of Development and Head of Membership Business at Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, as well as CEO of Aqua Planet, and is currently Head of the Estate Division.
A Hanwha Group representative stated, "We have appointed proven experts to proactively respond to uncertain internal and external business environments and to strengthen our mid- to long-term competitiveness. This round of appointments is focused on enhancing global competitiveness and securing a leading position in future markets." The newly appointed CEOs will be officially confirmed through shareholder meetings and board approvals according to each company's schedule.
