Signing of Mutual Cooperation Partnership Agreement for Regional Revitalization
On August 29, Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province attended the "2025 Population Decline Area Mayors and County Chiefs Policy Meeting" and signed a mutual cooperation agreement for regional revitalization with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety at the Grand Ballroom on the 4th floor of the Sejong Convention Center.
The policy meeting was attended by the Minister and Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Secretary for Local Autonomy Development at the Presidential Office, and the heads of 89 local governments from population decline areas across the country. The agenda included the delivery of proposals from population decline areas, a business agreement ceremony (mutual cooperation partnership between the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, population decline areas, Korea Railroad Corporation, and Socar), and a policy discussion.
Through this meeting, the government and local governments from population decline areas agreed to strengthen communication based on major policies for population decline areas in 2025, discuss various measures for regional development and joint response systems to address the population decline crisis, and move forward for the development of these regions. In particular, Ulleung County Governor Nam Han-gwon emphasized the need for wage support for resident doctors in Ulleung County, an island region with limited medical resources, and highlighted that expanding local medical infrastructure is a key task in responding to the crisis of regional extinction.
In addition, Ulleung County and eight other cities and counties agreed to promote mutual cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety through the regional revitalization partnership agreement ceremony, and to work together as partners to boost the domestic economy and enhance regional vitality.
This agreement is expected to further activate exchanges and collaboration between Ulleung County and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Governor Nam Han-gwon stated, "This policy meeting and partnership agreement mark a meaningful milestone for solving the practical problems of population decline areas and advancing Ulleung County's population policies," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to attract more residents to Ulleungdo and revitalize the local economy."
