Taekwondo Instructor Arrested for Kicking Girlfriend in the Face on the Street

Active Taekwondo Instructor with Competition Awards
Assault Followed by Home Intrusion and Stalking
Victim Remains Deeply Distressed

A man in his 30s was arrested by the police after brutally assaulting his girlfriend on the street following an argument at a drinking party. The man is known to be a martial artist with a record of winning Taekwondo competitions.

According to Yonhap News on August 30, the Ilsan Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province arrested active Taekwondo instructor A on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes and causing injury. He is known to have previously won awards at Taekwondo competitions.

The incident occurred in February on a street in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang City. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage released through JTBC's "Case Manager" on August 14 captured the scene where, after an argument following a drinking session, girlfriend B was heading toward a bus stop when A followed her, snatched her mobile phone, and kicked her in the face.

A continued his brutal assault by grabbing B by the back of the neck, slamming her into a tree, and tearing her clothes before leaving the scene.

During the incident, B suffered a nosebleed, severe facial injuries to the point where she could not open her eyes, and dental damage. Shocked by the assault, the victim cried out for help, prompting citizens who had just gotten off a bus to call the police and assist in her rescue.

Immediately after the incident, A broke into B's residence without permission and made hundreds of phone calls. He also took photos inside the victim's home and sent them via social media, leaving messages such as "Come home quickly," causing further distress. B stated, "I never gave him my home password," and expressed her fear, saying, "If I had been home, I could have suffered even greater harm."

In a broadcast interview, B revealed, "I was diagnosed that the nerves in my face might not recover," and said she is still suffering from trauma. She added, "I carry self-defense items because I'm afraid of running into him," expressing her extreme anxiety.

The court has issued a restraining order prohibiting A from approaching within 100 meters of B and banned all electronic communications with her. The police plan to soon refer the case to the prosecution.
