The special prosecutor's team, led by Lee Myeonghyun and investigating allegations of external pressure and cover-up in the death of Corporal Chae, summoned Hwang Yuseong, former Commander of the Republic of Korea Military Counterintelligence Command, for questioning.
Former Commander Hwang appeared at the special prosecutor's office as a witness at around 9:25 a.m. on the 30th.
He did not respond to reporters' questions such as, "Were you aware of the rumor that the VIP was enraged?", "Did you know about any indications of external pressure on the investigation?", "What instructions did you receive from then-Minister of National Defense Lee Jongseop?", and "Why did you speak with the presidential office's military advisor after the initial investigation report was made?"
At the time of Corporal Chae's death, Hwang was the head of the military intelligence agency, the Counterintelligence Command. The special prosecutor's team plans to question him about the reports he received or instructions he gave regarding Corporal Chae's death, the information the Counterintelligence Command had at the time, and the directives of then-Minister of National Defense Lee Jongseop.
