Dongui University "2002" Team Wins Top Prize at Weather and Climate Tech Startup Idea Contest

Development of Double-Separation Rainwater Grate Structure
Creative Ideas Lead the Way in Addressing the Climate Crisis

The "2002" team from the Department of Product Design Engineering at Dongui University (President Han Suhwan) won the top prize in the prospective entrepreneur category (CEO Award from the Busan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation) at the 8th Weather and Climate Tech Startup Idea Contest.

The 2002 team, consisting of sophomore Kim Gunho, junior Eo Yunmi, and Yeon Yongjin, received high praise at this contest for developing a double-separation structure rainwater grate that is easy to manage and clean. At the awards ceremony held at BEXCO in Busan on August 28, they received a certificate and a prize of 2 million won.


In the prospective entrepreneur category, the excellence awards went to: ▲Mobility (micro-mobility solution utilizing weather data) - Director of Busan Regional Meteorological Administration Award; ▲Barna (eco-friendly antifouling agent using marine by-products) - Director of Busan National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Award; ▲U-Weather Lap (urban climate response platform based on citizen experience) - Director of Dongui University RISE Project Group Award.


In the startup company category, "E-CUBE" received the top prize, the Director of the Korea Meteorological Administration Award, for its block technology that prevents flooding. The excellence awards were given to: ▲Jinkyung Biotech (eco-friendly pellets using spent mushroom substrate) - Director of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology Award; ▲Mycreco (energy-saving microwave hay production system) - Director of Korea Meteorological Industry Technology Institute Award; ▲Flow Farm (development of low-carbon biodegradable substrate) - Director of Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation Award.


This contest was co-hosted by the Dongui University RISE Project Group, Busan Regional Meteorological Administration, Busan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, and Busan National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. The winning teams will receive various benefits, including education, consulting, and promotional support for startup and growth.


Lee Imgeon, head of the Dongui University RISE Project Group, said, "It is meaningful that a variety of creative ideas for responding to the climate crisis and a sustainable future were discovered through this contest," adding, "Innovation in the weather and climate tech field will play a significant role in addressing climate change issues in the future."
