The Geoje Southern Tourism Complex development project in Gyeongnam has gained new momentum after receiving conditional approval from the Central Land Expropriation Committee, which recognized the project as being in the public interest.
On August 29, Gyeongnam Province explained that the committee acknowledged both the public purpose and urgency of the Geoje Southern Tourism Complex project, granting 'conditional approval' with several requirements, including raising the compensation acquisition rate and specifying plans for public contributions.
The province plans to faithfully implement the committee's conditions and to incorporate the results of the environmental impact assessment review into the process of approving the tourism complex development plan, aiming to minimize environmental impact.
The Geoje Southern Tourism Complex will be built on a 3.69 million square meter site in Tappo-ri, Nambu-myeon, and Yulpo-ri, Dongbu-myeon, Geoje City, with a total project cost of 427.7 billion won.
By 2031, the complex is set to include accommodations such as resort condominiums, tourist hotels, and hostels, as well as facilities for marine sports experiences, ecological experiences, and sports and leisure culture.
