Seokmin Son, former Director of the Legal Affairs Bureau at the Democratic Party of Korea Central Party, has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the Gyeongnam Provincial Party.


The Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongnam Provincial Party announced on the 29th that, as part of the regular personnel changes for Central Party officials effective September 1, Son has been assigned to the Gyeongnam Provincial Party as the new Secretary General.


It was also added that Kyungwon Jung, the former Secretary General of the Provincial Party, has moved to the position of Director of the Labor Bureau at the Central Party.


Secretary General Son was born in Gwangju in 1977 and previously served as Director of General Affairs at the Open Democratic Party and Director of the Legal Affairs Bureau at the Democratic Party of Korea.


He is also known as an expert in social media promotion within the party, operating the party's YouTube channel 'Deli Minju' among other activities.


He is the second Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongnam Provincial Party from the Honam region, following Mincheol Choi in 2021.


Secretary General Son stated, "I will do my utmost to achieve the completion of democracy in Korea through local autonomy promoted by the Lee Jaemyung administration and to secure victory in next year's local elections."


He added, "By diversifying the Gyeongnam Provincial Party's YouTube and various social media channels and strengthening our media promotion capabilities, I will support local election candidates and lead the party to victory in next year's local elections."
