Focus on AI, Carbon Neutrality, and Regional Industrial Competitiveness

Pohang City has officially begun developing an execution strategy to incorporate the new government's national tasks into its municipal administration.

On August 29, the city held a "New Government National Task Response Strategy Project Discovery Report Meeting" chaired by Vice Mayor Jang Sanggil. During the meeting, participants discussed strategic projects to respond to the five-year national administration plan announced by the National Policy Planning Committee. Key topics included strengthening the competitiveness of core industries such as steel and secondary batteries, fostering new industries such as bio and AI, and revitalizing marine tourism, all in alignment with the government’s national tasks.

Pohang City Launches Full-Scale 'Regional Development Roadmap' Linked to 123 Key National Tasks of the New Government On the 29th, Pohang City held a "New Government National Task Response Strategy Project Discovery Report Meeting" chaired by Vice Mayor Jang Sanggil.

In particular, the city decided to actively pursue the inclusion of national funding for projects that have been its main focus and that align with the new government’s agenda. These projects include: establishing a global AI computing center; attracting the construction of a National Veterans Nursing Home in the East Coast region of North Gyeongsang Province; building an integrated center for carbon neutrality technology development (DACU demonstration); creating a complex marine leisure tourism city; expanding a smart salmon aquaculture cluster; bidding to host the 33rd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2028; establishing a regional essential emergency medical system; creating a subtropical smart agriculture development zone; and developing future water resources through seawater desalination for industrial use.

To ensure swift implementation, the city plans to identify detailed action plans for each relevant ministry and to concretize projects through active consultations. In addition, Pohang City will further strengthen its strategic cooperation with central government ministries and political circles to secure the necessary budget.

The city also intends to re-examine existing projects related to national tasks by reinforcing their logical foundation and, furthermore, to discover new projects that align with the direction of the national tasks in order to maximize policy synergy effects.

Vice Mayor Jang Sanggil stated, "This set of national tasks appears to place significant emphasis on AI and carbon neutrality, which are highly relevant to the city's industrial structure and environmental conditions. We will design large-scale projects related to AI and carbon neutrality and develop them into national projects."

In September, the city will hold a report meeting on major work plans for 2026. At this meeting, Pohang City will further develop the strategic projects identified in the current session and discover new policy initiatives, proactively submitting proposals to central ministries for those areas where national funding can be secured in the 2026 budget.
