Traditional Korean Music, Popular Songs, and Classical Music Come Together on One Stage
On September 13, 2025, the city of Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, announced that it will host the Ansan City Korean Traditional Music Orchestra’s special performance, "A Korean Traditional Music Outing with Bando Island," at the Saint Paul International School gymnasium inside Lagoon Terrace on Bando Island.
This performance will feature a blend of traditional Korean music, popular songs, and classical music on a single stage. Highlights include the Korean traditional orchestra piece "Spotlight Ansan," which expresses Ansan through traditional music, as well as a medley of popular songs such as "Autumn Letter," "About Romance," and "Libertango." The program also includes a daegeum and gayageum trio, the haegeum concerto "Czardas," a piri trio, and a percussion ensemble, offering a diverse musical experience.
The concert will also feature Gyeon Duri, a certified Gyeonggi folk song performer, collaborating on pieces such as "I Love All Twelve Months," "Wish," and "Song of the Wind." In particular, the performance of "Shinbaetnori" will celebrate the recent opening of the Siwaho waterway and support the new beginnings of Bando Island.
Through this event, the city of Ansan aims to help establish Bando Island as a vibrant community space where culture and the arts thrive.
Lee Sunhee, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ansan City, stated, "We have prepared this performance so that Bando Island residents can experience the charm of Korean traditional music, where tradition and modernity come together, right in their local community."
