Fox Business Interview
"Optimistic About Discussions With President Trump"
On August 28 (local time), Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, stated that the company is in discussions with the Donald Trump administration regarding the sale of its latest artificial intelligence (AI) chip, Blackwell, to China.
In an interview with Fox Business, CEO Huang expressed optimism about the discussions with President Trump, but added that there is no specific timeline yet for when sales approval might be granted.
It has been reported that Nvidia is developing a lower-spec version of the Blackwell chip targeting the Chinese market. Earlier this month, President Trump indicated that he could allow exports to China if the chip's performance is reduced by 30 to 50 percent compared to the standard product.
CEO Huang commented, "While these discussions may take some time, President Trump understands that having the world develop AI based on the U.S. technology stack-a term referring to the set of programming languages, databases, infrastructure, and other technical elements used in a project-will help the U.S. win the AI race. Just as the U.S. dollar is the global standard, he wants U.S. technology to spread worldwide and for the world to be built upon American standards."
CEO Huang also mentioned during Nvidia's second-quarter earnings announcement that there were no sales of the H20 chip to China. The H20 is a lower-spec AI chip based on the Hopper architecture, designed specifically for the Chinese market. The Trump administration halted its export in April due to national security concerns, but permitted it again in July.
He stated, "We have not yet received any orders, but we are expecting them. The H20 remains an excellent product, offering outstanding price-to-performance ratio, cost efficiency, and AI token generation capabilities."
CEO Huang predicted that AI would drive positive changes across various fields, including productivity improvement, GDP growth, and the creation of new ideas. He said, "Every industrial revolution brings significant change, but thanks to AI and automation, the economy will function more smoothly and our lives will become more prosperous." He added, "Over time, quality of life will certainly improve. While some jobs will disappear, many new jobs will be created and invented."
He emphasized, "One thing is certain: every job will change because of AI." CEO Huang also suggested that improved productivity could make a four-day workweek possible. He noted, "People will be able to spend more time with their families on weekends, read, or travel. There was a time when we worked seven days a week, but now we work five."
