KCC and Hyosung Heavy Industries Jointly Develop Technology to Suppress Concrete Carbonation

Fusion of High-Performance Concrete and Eco-Friendly Paints
Enhancing Durability and Safety of Structures

On August 29, KCC announced that it has jointly developed a convergence technology with Hyosung Heavy Industries Construction PU to suppress the carbonation of concrete buildings and enhance their durability.

Concrete carbonation is considered a major cause of rebar corrosion, which shortens the lifespan of structures. The newly developed technology applies the paint "Hyosung Supro Shield" to high-performance concrete with reduced shrinkage and expansion, compensating for microcracks and blocking the penetration of external moisture and carbon dioxide. This technology has also received technical certification from the Korea Concrete Institute.

"Hyosung Supro Shield" is a high-performance water-based paint based on silane-modified acrylic emulsion resin. It forms a thin and strong protective film, providing excellent durability and weather resistance, and effectively prevents rebar corrosion and structural damage. It has also obtained non-combustible material certification, proving its safety as an exterior wall coating.

This paint meets all the criteria of "KS M 6010 Type 1 Grade 1," the highest quality standard for exterior wall concrete coatings, and has passed KS F 4936 (weather resistance test method for architectural paints), which evaluates the weather resistance and durability of paints. Therefore, it can be applied to structures such as high-rise apartment buildings and office building exteriors that are exposed to external environments for extended periods.

Both companies believe that this technology will contribute to improving the quality and enhancing the brand value of premium residential facilities, including Hyosung Heavy Industries Construction PU’s housing brand "Harrington Place."
