On August 28, Jeollanam-do held the 2025 Jeollanam-do Talent Festival at the Wangin Room of the provincial office, reflecting on the achievements of the past six years. The province awarded talent certificates to 10,000 individuals selected in four categories this year, including Top Talents, and introduced development programs for each field.
The event was attended by Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, Lee Gwangil, Vice Chairman of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council, donors, this year's selected students, their parents, and more than 300 participants in total.
During the festival, the province celebrated over 10,000 individuals selected for 23 programs in four categories: Top Talents, Overseas Students, Talents in Arts and Sciences, and the University Student Venture Startup Expedition, as well as the Mobile Lifelong Learning program. The event included the awarding of talent certificates, talent performances, ceremonies, congratulatory performances, and a briefing session on the Talent Development Expressway project.
In particular, a gayageum ensemble and a vocal and piano harmony performance by eight individuals selected as Top Talents and Talents in the Arts received an enthusiastic response from attendees.
The Talent Development Expressway project briefing, newly introduced this year, provided students and parents with an opportunity to directly understand Jeollanam-do's talent development initiatives and resolve their questions, garnering significant interest and support at the venue.
The New Millennium Talent Development Project, Jeollanam-do's flagship talent development initiative from 2019 to 2023, discovered and nurtured more than 9,000 talented individuals. As a result, it has produced achievements such as Paris Olympics archery gold medalist Nam Suhyeon, world youth fencing gold medalist Jang Bor yeon, and admissions to prestigious universities worldwide, including MIT in the United States.
Based on these achievements, Jeollanam-do has expanded its talent development budget to over 10 billion won since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration and is actively promoting the 'Talent Development Expressway' project, which spans the entire life cycle, further strengthening customized support.
This year, the province is discovering and nurturing more than 10,000 talents annually through 23 programs in four categories that correspond to different life stages: Budding Talents, Growing Talents, Global Talents, and Lifelong Talents.
Governor Kim Youngrok stated, "We will build a robust Jeollanam-do Talent Development Expressway so that local talents can pursue their dreams to the fullest," and added, "We will continue to innovate local education through Glocal Universities, the Jeonnam-style RISE initiative, and Special Education Development Zones, doing our utmost to ensure residents receive education in the best possible environment."
Since launching the 'New Millennium Talent Development Project' in 2019, Jeollanam-do has continued systematic support for local talents to grow and settle in the province through the second phase, the 'Jeollanam-do Talent Development Expressway.'
