Held at Gosan Cultural Park
Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation
Wanju County in North Jeolla Province will host the 35th National Flower Mugunghwa Wanju Festival at Gosancultural Park (Mugunghwa Auto Camping Site area) at 10:30 a.m. on August 30.
According to the county on August 28, this year’s festival, held under the slogan “80 Years of Liberation, 100,000 Residents of Mugunghwa Special City Wanju, Blossoming with the Scent of Mugunghwa,” aims to shed new light on the beauty and value of Korea’s national flower, the Mugunghwa.
The festival will feature a variety of programs, including a Mugunghwa sharing event (400 flowerpots), a Mugunghwa drawing contest for children from across the country, a Korean calligraphy contest for the general public, and hands-on activities such as making Mugunghwa fans, grip-toks, and keyrings, as well as face painting and woodburning experiences.
In particular, signature event games like “The Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed” and “Find the Mugunghwa Golden Ring,” which can be enjoyed by people of all ages, are expected to energize the atmosphere. There will also be a small water park and traditional game experiences for children, along with a variety of food booths.
Winners of the children’s drawing contest will receive awards including the Chief of Korea Forest Service Award (Grand Prize), North Jeolla Province Governor’s Award (Gold Prize), North Jeolla Superintendent of Education Award (Silver Prize), Wanju County Mayor’s Award (two Bronze Prizes), and Wanju Director of Education Award (two Encouragement Prizes). The winning entries will be displayed at the Mugunghwa Exhibition Hall.
At the Korean calligraphy contest, held as a side event, awards will be presented by the Wanju County Mayor, the Chairman of the Wanju County Council, and the President of the North Jeolla Korean Calligraphy Association. The festival will also feature celebratory performances, including a pre-event show by singer Hyunjinwoo and a stage by Jung Seojoo, adding to the festive spirit.
The Mugunghwa Auto Camping Site will be open to the public free of charge on the day before and the day of the festival, and visitors can enjoy water activities in the areas around Gosancultural Park and Sirangcheon Stream.
County Mayor Yoo Heetae stated, “As we celebrate the 80th anniversary of Liberation, I hope this festival will reaffirm the symbolism of the Mugunghwa, our national flower, and become an opportunity for even more people to cherish it. Wanju County will strengthen its status as Korea’s leading Mugunghwa city and prepare for a new leap forward as the Mugunghwa Special City.”
