The Seoul Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Kim Jaerok) announced on the 28th that Kim Geoseok, a member of the Honor Society, donated one Bitcoin to Community Chest of Korea and was listed as a member of the Seoul 'Honor Society O-Plus.' This donation marks the first case in the history of Seoul Community Chest of Korea where a large donation has been made in the form of a digital asset. As of this day, the value of one Bitcoin exceeds 150 million won.
With this, Kim Geoseok has become the 39th 'O-Plus' member nationwide and the 7th in Seoul. The 'Honor Society O-Plus' is an honorary title given to Honor Society members whose cumulative donations exceed 1 billion won. The donated Bitcoin will be converted into cash in accordance with the guidelines of the Financial Services Commission and the internal control standards of Community Chest of Korea, and will be used to support programs for vulnerable groups in Seoul.
Kim Geoseok joined the Honor Society in 2018 and made his first donation of 100 million won. Since then, he has continued his philanthropic efforts, reaching a cumulative total of 1 billion won through Seoul Community Chest of Korea, including this Bitcoin donation. He is known as a leading donor, having made large donations to Seoul National University Hospital and the Korean Red Cross, and on the 13th, he also donated one Bitcoin to the Korean Red Cross. Kim Geoseok stated, "One cannot live well alone. True meaning comes when many people succeed and share together," adding, "Philanthropy must also evolve and be practiced in line with the trends of the times."
Kim Jaerok, Chairman of Seoul Community Chest of Korea, commented, "Kim Geoseok's donation goes beyond a simple contribution of assets and sets a new milestone in the culture of giving that reflects the changes of our era," and added, "Seoul Community Chest of Korea will also actively seek new ways of sharing in a changing society."
