Hyundai Motor Group Appoints Jaewon Shin as Advisor
David Rotblatt Named Interim COO of Supernal
Hyundai Motor Group has abruptly replaced the head of its Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) business and is beginning full-scale preparations for commercialization. Jaewon Shin, who has led the AAM business thus far, has been appointed as an advisor, and the company is now searching for new leadership.
On August 28, Hyundai Motor Group announced that Jaewon Shin, Head of the AAM Division at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia, as well as CEO of Supernal, has been appointed as an advisor.
The group explained that Shin has completed the establishment of a technology development foundation in the future air mobility sector. Now, the company believes it is time for a new phase of leadership to drive commercialization, which is why this personnel change was made.
In the first phase, Hyundai Motor Group focused on securing the fundamental performance of the aircraft, including the power system and structural analysis, aerodynamics and noise, and control logic. Building on these achievements, the group’s strategy is to open the second phase, which will focus on preparing for full-scale commercialization with new leadership that has strengths in business development and operations.
Shin joined Hyundai Motor Group in 2019 and has led the AAM business. Since 2021, he has also served as CEO of Supernal, the future air mobility subsidiary established by Hyundai Motor Group in the United States.
In an internal email sent to Supernal employees on this day, Shin stated that Hyundai Motor Group’s AAM business has entered a new phase and that new leadership is needed to carry out this work more effectively.
Until a new leader is appointed, Supernal plans to operate under the interim leadership of David Rotblatt, the current Head of Business Development, who will serve as Acting Chief Operating Officer (COO).
