Gwangmyeong City Conducts Fire Prevention Inspections of Piloti-Structure Buildings

Five Apartment Complexes and Over 100 Residential Buildings Targeted
Focus on Firefighting Equipment and Use of Non-Combustible Finishing Materials

Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on August 28 that it will conduct a comprehensive fire prevention inspection of piloti-structure buildings within its jurisdiction from August 29 to August 31.

This inspection was prompted by the apartment fire incident that occurred in Sohadong last month, and aims to address safety blind spots in piloti-structure buildings, which are known to be difficult for initial response during fires.

The inspection targets include five apartment complexes with piloti parking structures and approximately 100 residential buildings. The main inspection items are: the structural form of the building; the presence of fire extinguishing equipment such as sprinklers and water spray systems in piloti parking lots; the use of non-combustible or semi-non-combustible finishing materials; and risk factors related to the age and deterioration of the buildings.

The city plans to immediately notify building managers and owners of any deficiencies found during the inspection and request improvements. Based on the inspection results, the city will also prepare follow-up measures, such as improving relevant legal systems and supporting the installation of fire spread prevention facilities.

For more detailed information regarding the inspection, inquiries can be made to the Housing Division at City Hall for apartments, and to the Architecture Division for general residential buildings.

Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "We will thoroughly prepare to prevent accidents similar to the fire incident in July," adding, "Through meticulous inspections and follow-up measures, we will create a safe residential environment where citizens can live with peace of mind."
