Gwangju Office of Education to Create 'Safe School Routes' Utilizing School Sites

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on August 27 that it will promote a project to create school routes utilizing school sites.

Starting in October, the Office of Education will launch the project at five schools, including four elementary schools and one middle school. These schools were selected because they either lack designated school routes or have poor environments, leading to frequent complaints. The schools will provide the land, while local governments will install and manage sidewalks and traffic facilities.

Gwangju Office of Education to Create 'Safe School Routes' Utilizing School Sites School commute routes created around Gwangju Yangsan Elementary, Gwangju Munhwa Elementary, Songwoo Elementary and Gwangsan Middle, and Gwangju Yangdong Elementary. Provided by Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education.

First, in cooperation with Gwangju City, a 2-meter-wide sidewalk and safety fences will be installed at Gwangju Munhwa Elementary School and Gwangju Yangsan Elementary School. At Gwangju Yangsan Elementary School, a raised crosswalk using a speed bump will also be constructed.

By January next year, in collaboration with Gwangsan District, school routes will be created around Songwoo Elementary School and Gwangsan Middle School as part of the 'Usandong New Village Project' selected last year. The narrow school route on the south side of Gwangsan Middle School and Songwoo Elementary School will be expanded, and a new sidewalk will be built on the east side of Songwoo Elementary School.

By August next year, in cooperation with Seo District, the access road in front of the main gate of Yangdong Elementary School will be paved, and traffic facilities such as sidewalks, raised crosswalks, and safety fences will be established.
