Jang Donghyuk Leadership Makes Hardline Statements on 'Struggle and Unity' from Day Two

Kim Minsu Targets Han Donghoon at First Supreme Council Meeting
"Party Bulletin Board Incident Must Be Investigated"

The new leadership team led by Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, continued to take a hardline stance on August 27, the day after its launch, mentioning a party member bulletin board survey and a right-wing alliance. There were also calls for a strong protest outside the parliament.

At the members' meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Jang said, "I know there are both expectations and concerns," and urged, "Please boldly cast off the old ways we wore during the party convention period, and focus all your energy on moving forward by keeping the ruling party in check and fighting against the Lee Jaemyung administration."

Jang emphasized, "The lawmakers have united their hearts and placed me in this heavy position," adding, "Let us work together and fight together." Song Eonseok, floor leader of the People Power Party, also stressed at the meeting, "The party is going through a very difficult time both inside and out," and insisted, "We must unite tightly around the new leadership to overcome this crisis."

At the first Supreme Council meeting held in eight months that morning, Jang also set party unity as the top priority. He promised, "All People Power Party members must become one and move forward," and "We will show you a changed and united People Power Party." He went on to say, "The public sentiment expressed by party members and citizens during the convention process was a call for us to keep the Lee Jaemyung administration in check and demonstrate competence," and pledged, "We will become a party that proposes alternatives and solves livelihood issues for the people."

Kim Minsu, Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, who was elected with strong support from hardline conservatives, joined in by saying, "Struggle is both innovation and the way to survive." Kim appealed, "We must resist all anti-state acts that harm the national interest and the universal interests of the people," and stressed, "Internal reform and external struggle are both desperately needed." He dismissed, "What is urgent is to eradicate internal attacks and acts of betrayal." He also insisted, "Party members are in the public square, and their voices are there," adding, "We must go out to the square."

In particular, Kim emphasized, "The party member bulletin board survey should be conducted together with a party affairs audit," and warned, "From this moment, we will hold accountable those who, while belonging to the People Power Party, mindlessly criticize the party for factional politics." This remark is interpreted as targeting the controversy from last November, when there were suspicions that the family of former leader Han Donghoon was involved in posts defaming former President Yoon Sukyeol on the party member bulletin board.
