"New Air Route Opens": Busan and Nagasaki Join Hands for Tourism and Exchange... Charter Flights in October

Busan and Nagasaki, Japan are expanding the scope of their exchanges, taking advantage of the newly established air route between the two cities.

On the 26th, the Busan Metropolitan Government announced that Seong Heeyeop, Deputy Mayor of Future Innovation, met with Yuko Baba, Vice Governor of Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, and other representatives in the city's International Protocol Office to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two regions.

This meeting was organized to strengthen the sister-city relationship between Busan and Nagasaki and to promote exchanges in the tourism and cultural sectors. Both sides expressed high expectations for increased tourism demand, exploring the possibility of establishing a direct flight route in connection with the Air Busan charter flights scheduled to operate in October.

Deputy Mayor Seong emphasized, "Nagasaki Prefecture has long been a sister city of Busan, boasting beautiful nature and rich historical attractions. If a direct flight route between Busan and Nagasaki is established, the exchange of tourists will increase significantly." He also introduced Busan's tourism content such as the Visit Busan Pass and 'Festival October,' proposing active cooperation.

The Air Busan charter flights between Busan and Nagasaki will operate eight times from October 1 to October 11.

Vice Governor Yuko Baba responded, "Busan is a city famous for its international film festival and more. I hope that with the operation of these charter flights, citizens will be able to travel more conveniently between the two cities."

Both sides have continued a variety of exchange projects this year, marking the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan. Last year, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their sister-city agreement, they held a book donation ceremony and a photo exhibition. This year, they are carrying out cultural exchanges related to the Joseon Tongsinsa and multilateral exchange projects among Korea, China, and Japan.

Deputy Mayor Seong stated, "Active exchanges continue with Nagasaki as a sister and friendship city. We will continue close cooperation with major cities in Japan to create a new turning point in the friendship between the two countries."
